I never watch award shows. This past week has been a marvelous reminder of why that is.
Meryl Streep is a talented actress. That is partially why she wins awards. Meryl Streep took the moment when she should have been thanking those in thankless Hollywood jobs that support her acting and make it possible for her to win. Next time send a beautiful handwritten letter on engraved stationery. If public shaming is bad, don’t perpetuate it.
Michael Keaton is another talented actor. He is also human. Why do people have to take a simple misreading of a teleprompter and make it a intentionally bigoted gaffe? Get over yourself, people. Have you never made an honest mistake? How about feeling a moment’s compassion for a man who flubbed a line on live TV?
I shall continue my practice of not watching awards shows.
